HOTEL REVIEWS
Canada, Nov 2008
The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful with someone on staff 24 hours a day. The breakfast was fantastic with both meat and cheese and home brewed coffees. We found the location to be very good as well and the staff directed us as to the public transit when necessary. The price was exceptional for the size of the room, quality of breakfast, and helpfullness of the staff. I would stay there again and recommend this hotel to all my friends. Wonderful stop in our itinerary.
Netherlands, Oct 2008
Fine hotel, approx 15-20 minutes walking from Piazza della Signoria. This way you'll see more of Florence, compared with a stay in one or the other tourist trap hostel in the city centre. Nice busy district around the corner (Via Vincenzo Gioberti). Go visit the pizzeria Fuori Piazza around the corner. Fantastic atmosphere, excellent down to earth food, very good prices. You'll only find the Florentines themselves over there. And me of course, when I'm around. :-)

We very much enjoyed our time at the Hotel bologna. we had room 24 with a large balcony, the linen and towels were changed every third day and the room was cleaned daily. The bar frig was very well stock and reasonable priced. The hotel had a lift, the staff were well versed in English and extremely helpful. The breakfast was very good, well serviced with a wide variety of selections, cereal, meat, juice, fresh fruit ,yogurt, cheese, bread, the coffee was excellent. Le Stagioni Pizzeria Spaghetteria restaurant was just down the street, great food and very good prices. Pay euro 1.20 at the train station get on bus number 14, it is probably more then three stops to the hotel. When we return to Firenze, we certainly will stay at Hotel Bologna

Nice basic hotel and decent locaton about 15-20 minute walk from center of town. A little confusing to find initially, but staff were very nice and friendly. Dinner at a local trattoria around the corner was excellent. Would consider staying for a short stay again.

Friendly accommodating staff, great coffee in the morning. Rooms are small but the 4 of us fit ok in the family room. Easy to get into town on the bus, and being away from town made the place very quiet at night.

Very good welcoming. The owner was very nice. Good breakfast included within the fees. The location is 15' walk from Duomo, and due to that it was very quiet. Access by bus and/or car is easy. In addition since we had to stay longer than planned we received a discount. Once again very nice and helpfull welcoming.

Great little hotel. Rooms are very nice, and more spacious than our hotel in Venice, which cost 3 times as much. Gracious front staff, spoke very good English. Hotel is located away from the toursit area, which made for a quiet and pleasant stay. It was a very nice walk to the city center, along the river (15 to 20 minutes). Breakfast could be improved, but by Italian standards it is good. I would definately stay at Hotel Bologna again.

This was a very nice place to stay. About 15-20 min walk from the core of Florence (i.e Duomo etc.) but in a quieter and more residential neighbourhood. So the walks in the morning and evening to and from the hotel allowed you to "re-group". The quality was excellent for the price and the price for drinks in mini-fridge was very reasonable. Overall, I was glad because it allowed me to spend money elsewhere for travels. The staff were all very friendly too.

Its a great hotel! Ive come to the conclusion over the years that a hotel is a hotel if its clean ,safe area(especially for children) and gives good breakfast and nice to you. Location is also important. This little hotel has it all. From reading the previous reviews I decided to book it as they were 90% positive. I wasnt disappointed. It is in a quite neighbourhood with friendly staff who give good instructions and speak english well (I cant speak italian!!! SHAME) Food is good and of the two resturants they recommended - 4pizza is best. I felt a bit ripped off in the other one , cant think of its name but it starts with T Tranoni or something like that. Make sure you get bottled water as they will stil charge you for 'Tap water' Back to the hotel - they left us leave our bags in the hotel while we browsed the city on the day we were leaving. i really cant praise it enough. Suffient to say if I owned a hotel this is the standard I,d aspire to. ***** five star and high fives!!! Great for a family room.

For a European hotel, it was bigger than I had anticipated for 4 people. It was very comfortable and most importantly, clean. It was outside the city center, which was a plus for us, as it was quieter at night. Also, enjoyed being part of a residential area. Would definitely recommend it and go back there again.

We were on our honeymoon in Florence in mid June 2008. The hotel is not far from the Firenze SMN station but you need to take a 20 minutes' bus ride (bus route 14) from the station when you carry a backpack / luggage. Stephen, the staff is very nice and friendly, he could provide the exact information about travelling Firenze and Pisa. The room we had is on the 2nd floor, facing the street and with a balcony, air-con, bathroom, 14" TV, about 200 sq feet. It's clean but when we open the balcony window, several mosquitoes you will find in the room. The location of the hotel is quite quiet and easily to be reached. It's only take 25 minutes' walk from Duomo. The breakfast is common. I will stay again if I come back because the price is reasonable and the area is much quiet than the centre. Apart from carrying the backpack, we chose walking to the Firenze centre.

The location of the hotel was pretty good as it was only a 10 minute walk to the main tourist destinations. It is very hard to find if you are traveling by car and we had to hire a taxi to follow because we couldn't find it. Breakfast was good and the room was surprisingly big with a nice balcony.

15 minutes easy walk to the dome, which we could see from our balkony. Staff very helpful re. parking and all questions. Easy to find the hotel and go there by car. And finally their breakfast was the best we had during our week in Toscana, living at other hotels at similar and higher prices. We returned to this hotel after a week last night before going home and we warmly recommend this hotel!

This hotel is really nice to stay in Florence. We stayed there for three days. And we were well pleased. The hotel do not equip a small refrigerator in each room. But beer, wine and cold beverages are available in the tea room next to reception for reasonable price all the day. So we did not complain about this point. The hotel is located near bus stop, big super market (Coop) and fine restaurant (pizzeria). Breakfast was also nice. We strongly recommend all of economy tourists to use this hotel.

We had a great stay. We were only there for two nights, but we enjoyed our time. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a shelf with lots of travel books on the area that guests could borrow. We had a quad room that was very spacious by European standards. The bathroom was clean with a shower that had good pressure. The breakfast was typical for Italy with a few extras. The hotel is a little outside of the core, but that is what I liked the most about it. We could walk in to town everyday in 15min with 2 kids age 6 & 7. The walk was filled with little shops and restaurants to enjoy. It was in a residential neighborhood so you felt like a local. Good bakery around the corner too.

We stayed for two nights in a double and a triple room. We were extremely satisfied. The hotel is in a quiet area about 15 min walk from city center and 1 or 2 blocks from a bus stop (depending on direction), giving the advantage of good access to the city without the noise and crowds. The hotel is also close to the river, the Campo di Marte train station, and several local restaurants. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. The lobby had wifi internet access(extending to one of our rooms). The breakfast was fine, with a variety of choices. The staff was very helpful, although the night staff didn't speak English well.

I had a wonderful 8 day stay at this hotel. It was in a nice quiet neighborhood, just a 30 min walk from downtown or you could take the bus. They were very helpful. Spotlessly clean. Very nice bathroom. My bed was a little saggy for my big frame, and some sound carried through the wall, but the breakfasts were the best I've ever had in Italy in my 4 weeks of travel. A buffet of cheeses, meats, yogurt, whole grain cereals, fruit, hot crosants ect. An incredible value.

It was a bit difficult to find the hotel, since we were driving from Rome w/o the Navigation system. But the staff at the hotel, (esp. Anatella)was extremely helpful in assisting us. The other staff were also helpful, esp. with information and providing a parking lot. Breakfast was great & ample. The bathroom was clean & the shower bigger than the other hotels. Though you need to walk a little more than 15 - 20 mins to the various tourist sites, it is well worth it. Wonderful pastry / bakery & ice- cream shops round the corner, wonderful market a little further down and also a super market. For those who want "Indian-like" food, try the little kebab store, just past the Beccaria, and don't forget to pop into the 1 Euro store. Try the "tripe" with bread as well - only to be found in firenze. We would definitely recommend this place to others, and stay here again.

The hotel is close to the river Arno, which make a beautiful walk to and from the centre of Firenze. The hotel is situated further up Via Orcagna than indicated on the map on the Venere web-site. The shortest way to the centre is by Via V Gioberti and Piazza Beccaria, you can reach the Duomo in 15 min. The surroundings of the hotel is quiet, but I could easily hear the guests in the neighbouring rooms. The staff was great, and the breakfast very good.

Can I evaluate the personnel with an 11+ ? They were AMAZING giving addresses and tips, nice nice people. The rooms where very cozy and clean, and the breakfast was super too. Just take the bus 14 for going anywhere of interest (as the train station and baptistery) and back to the hotel. Nice restaurants, parks and walks around it. Completly safe sorroundings. The pics of the hotel doesn't make any justice to it. I found wonderful hotels through venere.com, just read the traveleres comments and you'll find a good hotel.

Breakfast was great--the mornign we were leaving, we were getting a taxi (that they had already called for us!) at 8am and breakfast doesn't open until 8am, we went downstairs hoping to steal a quick something before we left. THe woman attending to the breakfast bar ran out and gave us a bag, napkins, everything we needed to take whatever we wanted! It was very sweet. Great location, close to some great restaurants. Let me start by saying that my wife and I stayed in 14 different hotels for our European vacation in the summer of 2006 (Aug – Sept) – so all our reviews will be comparing the hotels on the trip. European hotels are smaller and simpler than American hotels, so it doesn’t seem fair to compare them. For the most part, breakfast in a B&B is not worth it – especially if you have to pay a little more. We generally ate one morning at the included breakfast, and then skipped the other mornings – looking for a local place to enjoy breakfast. Also, all of our hotels had small bathrooms and very small showers – so be prepared with a good attitude and knowledge that you are there to see the sights – not soak in the tub! Kinda far from the sights. Very spacious room. Comfortable place to stay. We would go back if we couldn’t find something closer to the Dumo.

Located in a safe area, with well enlighted streets, close with main touristic places, BOLOGNA has all characteristics of a good hotel with excellent price/quality rate (nice furnished rooms, large beds & clean bathrooms, rich breakfast). Some unessential problems with showers(nonequal water-jets)could be easily solved by cleaning of the calcified deposits. Highly reccomended for short or long vacations. This was excellent value for money. We only paid 60 Euros for a double room and this was tremendous value. Don't be put off by the 2 star rating. The staff were friendly on arrival and the room wsa much bigger than we had expected and it was clean. The breakfast downstairs was very nice too. As others have mentioned the shower is very cloe to the toilet pan so you need to move the toilet paper otherwise it will get wet ! Location wise it is a little walk from the centre. My girlfriend did not find this a problem in the day with her normal shoes but when she walked back in her 'heels' at night it took about 25-30 mins from Ponta Vecchio and her feet were killing her. The advice is to take the No. 14 bus on the website but please be warned that there are two number 14 buses as they run both clockwise and anti-clockwise so make sure you travel the right way. The No. 14 bus directly outside the station travels the wrong way and you need to walk 400 metres towards The Dome to get the correct bus. In summary if you don't mind a bit of walking in to the centre I strongly recommend this hotel as it is excellent value for money.

Employees very kind and helpful, as my wife had to face an operation at he hospital. They even found us a new place for 4 more nights we had to stay. Location is good too, within walkind distance from historical center and Ponte Vecchio. Two blocks away is a very nice restaurant where we used to eat, called "La Taverna" Via Cimabue corner Via Arnolfo; tasty and cheap, with gentle features like the glass of "Limoncello" liquor offered between main course and dessert.Though there is no private parking available, it's quiet easy to park in the area. We would definitely recommend this hotel, one of the best we had one month during. Go there.

We avoided staying in “Center City” to thus avoid the high prices of the “Tourist Traps” we were never more than 1 Euro away in a bus or subway. The trip spanned Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Cremona, Parma, Borgo Val Di Taro, Rapallo and Milan. Hotel Bologna was our second stop. Rooms were the European standard, but had air conditioning, that was working well during the “Italian heat wave”, and safe. The breakfast was downstairs in a well decorated “Tavern-like décor. Internet access was across the street in Hotel Orcagna that was by the same owners. You take the number 14 bus to the center of Florence. Parking was on the street and it was fairly easy to find.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and we had a very good time there. If you come by car, don't expect to find a parking place near the hotel. You can walk from the hotel into the town centre of Florence following the Arno river, which makes it a very beautiful walk! The breakfast buffet was good and had pleanty of different food. The hotel staff was very friendly and helped ud with a couple of things. The room was good but the bed was too short if you are 1.94 m tall. Our room was quiet at night. On of the best thing was that you could turn the aircondition on and off (and choose different levels of airconditioning). So we will definitely recommend this hotel and comparing to other hotels, we have visited in Tuscany, this hotel could just as well have 3 stars instead of the 2 stars.

Single traveller
USA, Jun 2006
The location worked really well for me, as I wanted to be close to the train station, yet being a single female traveler, I wanted to be safe. At times I thought the area was a bit shady, but it really was pretty safe and tourist-ridden. There is an outstide market every morning right outside the door. The only real thing I have to complain about is that they don't change the towels every day, and there was a lot of construction work right outside my window, but that isn't the hotel's fault. Breakfast was not included and I paid $60/night, which was still a good deal for late June.

Excellent price-quality. Two minor remarks: beds (matrasses)were a little too soft and the coffee (breakfast) should really be improved.

I can gladely recommend this hotel. The room was spacious and in perfect condition. The personnel were friendly and we were suprised that a 2 star hotel had such good standard even though the reviews had indicated that when we first read about the hotel. If you are a healthy person the walk into city will take about 25 minutes but there are also busses that stops near the hotel.

Hotel was clean and well maintained. I did not care for the restroom, the shower head was just above the toilet. Parking was terrible! The hotel did not accomindate for parking or provide suggestions other that "park in the blue areas". Other than that it was a 2 star hotel, no frills but a nice place to sleep while visiting. The breakfast in the morning was very nice, the staff did a nice job.

Staff friendly and helpful. Location quiet but easily accessible via public transportation. Bathroom was large and updated. Hot water was on demand. SuperMarket a short distance from the hotel. Overall, a good value for the money.
