We were looking for a cheap hotel in the central of Barcelona. That was exactly what we got. Being a former Barcelona residence I new that El Raval was not the safest and prettiest area in Barcelona, however the hotel location was not the worst I have seen. Although I would not recommend it for families with children, as it seemed to be close to the local red light districts. We had a good stay and the hotel employees were great.

This hotel is located on a prostitution corner and we left as soon as we saw the neighborhood. We never actually stayed at the Barbara, so I have no idea if the poor/excellent ratings I filled out are accurate, but the system made me fill them out.

location is very good, if you can look through the more suspect activities on the streets at all time of day\night. Don't get a room at the back! Looking in to a narrow shaft, no air, no view, worst room ever. Second night I got a room with view of the plaza, much better. Noisy hotel.

The hotel is very close to Los Ramblas and within easy walking distance to most of Barcelonas attractions. The only problem we had was that there is a pub/sport bar on the corner opposite and Barcelona was playing Madrid so it was extremely noisy all night. There are also a lot of ´sex workers´around the corner but they didnt bother us.

The rooms were very minimal, stuffy and loud. We could hear water running and toilets flushing all night long. There was also very loud construction noise starting every morning and going all day long (no siestas here!) The hotel is close to a good area, but is situated on a side street that is very seedy, especially at night. There are literally prositutes standing within 10 feet of the entrance! The only redeaming quality of this hotel is the very friendly, helpful staff. For the money, look elsewhere.

The hotel charged immediately the first day as soon as the reservation was made, OPPOSITE to what is stated in Venere. More, we had to pay the full stay as soon as we checked-in OPPOSITE to waht was stated in Venere

The area was rather horrible. I never felt as scared as that day in all my life. The area was full of prostitutes and at night it was super noisy. We could hear British people singing "We have the luz" or something like that.

Despite my call before booking the hotel where they confirm me that supplementary bed for seven years hold baby is free thay charge me 30€ extra cost for each night. Excluding this the location is very near to ramlbla, harbour and other turistic attraction. The hotel is decent but do not wait special things

I spent a long weekend in Barcelona with my boyfriend. The locatyion on hotel Barbara is excellent, a few hundred meters on La Rambla and the old town. A quite noisy area, so I don`t recommend for light sleepers. Also, I wouldn`t walk alone at night time, because the streets are quite narrow, dark and busy (espacially at night time!) Otherwise, a very nice hotel with friendly staff! The rooms are very simple but spacy and clean. I would have enjoyed better bathroom equipments. But a nice hotel with a very reasonable price!

The Hotel is located near a very dangerous street, in the centre of barcellona but nont very nice. I stay in Barcelona for 3 days. Barcellona is wonderful but the Hotel Barbara is terrible. I don't understand why I had paied all the price the day I arrived. It's the first time that happened.

This was a budget hotel but the staff would not even when asked provide a plug for the bath - the shower was unusable and they would not give me a cup/glass so I could take some tablets. The entrance is less than 20 metres from the worst street in Barcelona where 30-40 prostitutes occuped a 25 metre street. I would have been horrified if I had a child with me.

The hotel is just in the center of Barcelona, it's very near to the Rambla and to the interesting points, you can reach them by feet...There's a lot of prostitues near the hotel, also in the day time, but it isn't a problem if you don't have children, they don't disturb you: you know, it's more often to be disturbed by the Rambla's black prostitutes after midnight, if you are boys or men walking alone.

The hotel was surrounded by hookers!! I definately would not stay here again. I was here with my family so it was really not a good decision. Also, the hotel docked my credit card before my arrival even though venere.com says that's not the policy. AND, the map for this hotel provided on venere.com was just indecipherable. If you're new to Barcelona, you can't find this place unless you take a cab.

Good budget hotel. No shower curtain, but bathroom newly renovated and very clean. Location very close to Las Ramblas. Unfortunately major prostitution pickup area directly outside hotel. Many seedy people hanging around prostitutes. Would recommend if you don't mind the sight of hookers and pimps.

The location is very good for visiting the old city,Rambla ect.The surroundings are a bit "suspect",but we didn't feel uncomfortable walking home late at night. The double room was the smallest room I've ever stayed in !The triple room was better. If you just want a place to sleep and a bathroom, clean and at a reasonable price (for Barcelona)it's ok.Garages nearby for those who come by car.

the place is definitely walking distance from spain's main tourist artery the La Rambla, very accessible (by foot) to major tourist spots. The English-speaking staff, their warm welcome and efficiency more than make up for the sometimes rowdy crowd that gather in the neighborhood at night. Ideal place for first timers who need a good bed, a hot shower, lots of tips and valuable information on places to go to(from the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable english-speaking staff)and accessibility to prime hot spots. just 9 euros by nice mercedes benz taxi for 3 people with baggages from the train (franca). very good value for money.
United Kingdom, May 2007
Having read the previous reviews for the hotel, I didn't expect this!!! the first night we spend it in a room facing the road..What a night!!! Trust me the noise coming from the rubish collectors and jet washing the road below is so much that you want to scream The next day, the hotel manager was kind enough to change us room and we start enjoying our stay. There were lots of prostitutes at the road parallel to our hotel but we didn't have any problem and we felt safe as policemen was always there!! Basically the hotel is really close to La Rambla and in a very convienient spot.

On the weekend we were in Barcelona there was a construction convention in town. Hotel rooms were scarce and the hotels were price gouging. We stayed 4 days (2 Weekend days @ 196 Euros and 2 week days @ 92 Euros). We were required to pay for all 4 days upon arrival so we were locked in to the Hotel Barbara for our entire stay or loose the room for the weekend days. Prostitutes were outside the Hotel entrance 24 hours every day. This Hotel is not in a desirable area.

We stayed in a very small double room on 3rd floor. Room clean but very worn out ,especially the bathroom. Very much noise from the street and from waterpipes and ventilating plant. Nice breakfast room and very kind and helpful staff. This hotel is in walking distance from almost everything and close to metro.

Needed more loo roll in a triple room. Remember asking for more last time too. No shuttle service from airport as advertised. Rooms clean and beds very comfortable. Secure access - excellent due to locality but locals no problem at all. Front house service always friendly and helpful. Lovely welcome back as it was our second stay here. Closeness to Ramblas meant easy to eat on Ramblas itself. Value of price per room and facilities excellent.

Welcoming was very bad: the receptionist wanted we payed immediately for all our stay! We felt like delinquents. The room for three people was very small. Before to go to bed we had to put our luggage on the ground. The room was very noisy. In front of the hotel there is a place full of prostitutes with their clients (this isn't dangerous because the police is often present and so there is no safety issue). It is located near the Ciutat Vella, the Ramblas, the Barri Gòtic and placa de Catalunya. The hotel is only e feew minutes from Metro.

Neighbourhood of the hotel was restless with numerous prostitutes operating in the immediate vicinity. Bathroom open to the bedroom with only one narrow piece of glass protecting from splashing of water during showering. Thus water tended to spray all over and even on the bed. Toilet was so small that a male of my height (180 cm) is not able to sit on the toilet seat except in a very uncomfortable position.

The hotel is clean and very close to La Rambla. The map provided did not help us. We had to ask heaps of people where to go before we actually found the place. Also, the street the hotel is on has alot of Pro's - if you get what i mean (The front glass doors to the hotel are ALWAYS locked and you need to be buzzed in) So i dont recommend this hotels for families. Possibly for groups of people. The hotel is also close to the market where you can get some great food and fresh fruit and vegies. The breakfast is also quite nice.
